About me

I have from a young age been closely involved with mothers and babies. I would go to stay with my cousins when they  had  their babies and would help with sterilizing and making bottles, do the washing, make dinner and spend time with them while their partners went back to work .

In adulthood my involvement continued with friends who became pregnant; another early example would be a good friend who became pregnant when she was 17. I was with her when she took the pregnancy test and supported her during the following months and years her baby is now 25!

Another friend asked me to be with her when she gave birth to her first child, she had a hospital birth and active labour with her baby boy. I was delighted to be able to support her throughout the birth and when the baby was taken away soon after because of the midwife needing to check him over I went with him and stayed with him at the request of his mum until he was returned to her for a feed and a cuddle.

I am a mother of 4 and had very different experiences of pregnancy and childbirth both in hospital with various interventions and  a planned home waterbirth with no intervention.

I have personal experience of miscarriage and the affect this loss can have on a subsequent pregnancy.

I attended  a fantastic  Doula Information weekend with Michel Odent and Liliana Lammers (Paramana Doulas) which confirmed  my desire to help empower all those within the rainbow to have their baby in their chosen way.

Doula Service

There will be a no-obligation consultation visit to discuss the expectations of the mother-to-be and learn more about what you want from your birth experience and  how I can help you achieve this.

Following this, should you wish to book  me I will meet with you and your birth partner twice before the birth to review your birth plan so that I can better understand your needs and wishes. This will also be a time where we may discuss any previous birth experiences you have had, your hopes and fears for this birth and find information to help you make the right decisions for you and your baby. Our discussions at this time will be entirely based on the topics that are important to you. You can also tell me what you expect from the Doula support that I will provide.

During your labour and birth, I will provide continuous support for you. I will be available 24 hours a day during the two weeks before your due date and two weeks after. I will support you as much as you wish in relation to your birth plan. I will stay with you following the birth until you and your baby are happy and settled either at home or in hospital.

There will also be one postnatal visit where we can discuss your birth experience, you may have questions or concerns that have arisen since the birth and wish to find out more about these topics.
